Every decision in life is associated with risk. Sometimes we are aware of the risk going in, and other times, we make the decision first and then realize that there is a risk. When my family and I decided to move to the USA, I was terrified of how that might impact us. For one, it would be a major cultural change and an adaptation to different habits in a country that we had visited before but never lived in. For me, the most significant risk would be my children not being able to adapt to this new environment. When I left Colombia, I prayed to God that my youngest son would never stop singing\u2014something he always did back home. And that is exactly what happened in the beginning. He stopped singing. This hit me very hard because I felt it was my fault. Nevertheless, with the help of time, family, and friends’ support, I am pleased to report now that my son has resumed singing and is enjoying his life in the USA. A lot of what I have experienced in these two years confirmed that the risks we saw when moving to the US were worth taking and that we do not grow and move forward by avoiding risks. We need to remember that they are part of our journey and can be an excellent ally in achieving our personal and professional goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
